Ever since I reacted to Ren’s “Fire In The Booth,” the comments were flooded with one request: “React to Harry Mack!” I took a hiatus before I ever got around to it, but now that I’m doing the LTFI marathon, it was finally time. Going into this, I expected something similar to Ren’s performance… but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Ren showed elite penmanship and lyrical mastery over his own production. Harry Mack showed the ORIGINAL definition of freestyle. Watching Charlie Sloth throw random words, objects, and even entire topics at him while he never lost the beat took me straight back to my own freestyle days. Me and my friends spent thousands of hours passing bars back and forth until people would recognize us as “the dudes that freestyle.” So seeing someone sustain that level of creativity for 25 straight minutes without falling off was unreal. The craziest part wasn’t even the punchlines. It was when Charlie stopped giving him words and simply asked him to talk about his week in the UK… and Harry turned an ordinary recap into a full freestyle without breaking stride. That, to me, might’ve been the most difficult part of the entire performance. This reaction genuinely made me want to start freestyling again.
