Salmon and Sea Trout Angling on the River Faughan, Northern Ireland.

Foyle Catchment | River Faughan Season: 20th May – 20th October The medium sized (5-20 metres wide) Faughan rises on the flanks of Sawel, the highest of the Sperrin peaks. It makes its way along a scenic valley through the village of Park, flowing north east by Claudy to Drumahoe where it swings north to enter Lough Foyle. It is a renowned spate river for salmon and sea trout. Season and day tickets for the whole of the Faughan are available from the River Faughan Anglers Association. Species: Salmon, Brown Trout and Sea Trout Best Times: Mid-August onwards (Salmon) May – early August (Brown Trout) June – early August (Sea Trout) Methods: -Fly -Spinning -Worm Best Salmon Flies: -Small shrimp patterns from size 8 to 12 (such as the Bann Special) -Apache -Currys Red -Faughan Shrimp Best Sea Trout Flies: -Traditional patterns in sizes 8 to 12 for daylight (such as Teal Blue & Silver) -Butcher -Peter Ross -Connemara Black
