María Escoté sobre «Tertulia», de Ángeles Santos

This interview sees designer María Escoté (Barcelona, 1979) speak about the work "Tertulia" (The Gathering, 1929), by artist Ángeles Santos (Portbou, Girona, 1911 – Madrid, 2013). Escoté highlights the importance of the artistic training Santos had access to from an early age, training which was out of reach for most women at the time and the lack of which hindered their technical mastery. "Tertulia", painted in 1929, the same year the artist painted her iconic work "Un mundo" (A World), is structed around a scene with four women who are striking for their modernity, both in form and content, earning a young Santos relevance in the avant-garde artistic landscape. The interview is part of "La Favorita", a project which invites public figures to choose their favourite work from the Museo Reina Sofía Collections and share their personal story around it.
