How to deal with the contemporary challenges of communication? How do empathetic listening, the authentic expression of feelings and needs, and the search for collaborative solutions help us build the present and prepare for the future? The idea of ​​this Café meeting is to explore the uses and engagements of dialogue in different spheres of contemporary life, from our interpersonal and family relationships to our work environments, communities, and broader social contexts. Lecture from the module Reconnections with the Contemporary Beginning the celebrations of its 20th anniversary, Café launched a series in early 2023 on the most discussed themes of the last two decades; among them, love, family, marriage, sexuality, childhood, adolescence, aging, and death. Twenty years ago, Café emerged with the proposal to review what from the recently ended 20th century would be important to understand and bring as a tool for reflection into the century that was beginning, with globalization as the great driver of change at that time, our then contemporary. Café has always reflected, with the help of thinkers from the past and present, on our present, offering a perspective on the paths that are unfolding ahead. Of course, we must all acknowledge that we are of this time, and not of other times. At the same time, we must also assume a certain distance from this time to understand its specific implications, its challenges, its opportunities. With 20 years of research on the contemporary, Café can feel like someone in the safety of a dock, while in a storm on the high seas. It can also feel like someone skating very quickly on the very thin layer of ice of a frozen lake; if they slow down, the ice breaks. To be 20 years old and impetuous means being able to go beyond the expectations of the present time and bring to light neglected or ignored issues. It's an attitude that seeks to understand the contradictions, voids, and gaps of the present time. In this special series about the 20th anniversary of Café, also curated by the CPFL Institute, approaches to the contemporary are reconfigured, reconnecting with other issues, other themes, other discussions.
