The Content and the Story Behind the Elusive Document Good morning. This is today's Coronell Report. In the last few hours, activist Beto Coral returned to Colombia. He arrived aboard one of the Colombian Air Force's regular humanitarian flights that periodically bring back Colombians deported from the United States. In the last 16 months, 43,000 Colombians without legal immigration status have been expelled from that country. Last night, along with Beto, 75 other people arrived, including eleven children. Among all the cases, Beto Coral's was different. Behind the removal of the well-known social media activist, who earned a living driving for Uber in Phoenix, Arizona, was a personal and direct request from the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. A month and a day ago, when Coral arrived home from the supermarket with his twelve-year-old son and his dog, he was met by several agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the main law enforcement agency of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). They initially showed him their weapons but quickly put them away when they saw he had a child with him. They told him they had an arrest warrant and allowed him to enter his home, call his ex-wife so she could come and take care of the child, and retrieve documents proving he had a work permit, a Social Security card, and that his asylum application—which, due to system congestion, had been pending for over ten years—was also on file.
