This is one of the Shishi Kagura dances that has been widely performed throughout the Shimokita Peninsula, centered around Higashidori Village in Shimokita District, Aomori Prefecture. Originally a Noh dance of Shimokita transmitted by mountain ascetics (Yamabushi Shugendo). It is said to be a typical example of Shugendo Noh, incorporating elements of Sarugaku, Dengaku, and Kyokumai, based on Shugendo practices, and retaining many aspects of medieval performing arts such as narrative dances. This video shows the Okina-mai dance performed by the "Shiranuka Yusei Club" from Higashidori Village on March 8, 2025 (Reiwa 7), at the "Mutsu Kasamai Hall" in Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture.
