Over a hundred years ago, the people of the three villages located in what was then the Eder Valley—Asel, Berich, and Bringhausen—had to leave their homes forever. After the completion of the Eder Dam, the homes of several hundred people were submerged in the floodwaters. Today, the remains of these villages lie at the bottom of Lake Eder. In particularly dry summers, the low water level allows us to return there and learn more about the fate of the sunken villages and their inhabitants.
