DIY Spindle Sander

This is a DIY spindle sander project for either a hand drill or a drill press. The spindle is made of ¾” Plywood disks that were cut out using a hole saw drill (also could use a circle cutting jig). You could make the spindle to any height or diameter needed. The sizes I use for this project are shown in a dimensioned 3D CAD view at the end of the video. Each disk is glued and screwed together, then sanded down as a whole unit to be a perfect circle. A hole is drilled all the way through the spindle to accept a 1 ¼” sheetrock screw (two screws for large spindles). Then a slot is cut in the spindle that bisects the hole for the sheetrock screw. This slot is where the sandpaper ends will be tucked into. A ¼” Hex bolt is clamped down to the spindle with a hex nut & washer. The hand drill or drill press chuck clamps down on the end of the ¼” hex bolt. There’s a dimensioned 3D CAD view in the video if interested in more details.
