The Truth About England’s Most Feared Mythical Beast

Local legend says a skeptic was once found dead here with marks no human could make. I decided to head into this treacherous limestone gorge to see if the stories are true. Deep in Yorkshire lies Troller’s Gill, a narrow valley famous for a legendary black hound known as the Barghest. With glowing eyes and a terrifying howl, this mythical beast has haunted Northern England for centuries. But as I hiked deeper into the gorge to trace the origins of these folklore tales, the weather turned, and I stumbled across abandoned mine shafts, eerie landscapes, and a very real reason why you shouldn't wander here at midnight. Thank you to the channel members for funding today's excursion (and the new wellies that saved the day!). 📍 Want to visit Troller's Gill? I highly recommend going in the summer when it's dry! I’ll be adding the OS maps links and the GPX download links into the Members Area very soon.
