It's always better to be safe than sorry. However, in a similar type of knife attack with a different objective, such as violence or a tentative of abduction, a static knife attack should be stopped and controlled by trapping the knife hand and striking your attacker right away. Remember however, that prior to making your move; you will need to use a strategy called "pattern interrupt" to distract your attacker. This process starts by asking him questions, so that he cannot focus on cutting you. As your attacker will be answering or thinking about your question, that will be the best time to deliver your powerful blows. These first strikes will take him by surprise.
