Kartause Buxheim - Ein Jahrtausendkunstwerk

The Buxheim Charterhouse was formerly one of the most important Carthusian monasteries in Germany. Founded in 1402, it soon gained renown for its art treasures, library, and special position within the Holy Roman Empire. Our first article focused on the history, library, and life of the monks; now we would like to highlight the art treasures: There is the Chapel of St. Anne, nicknamed "Little Wies," which was designed by the Zimmermann brothers; the monastery church; and, of course, the famous choir stalls, considered among the most beautiful in Europe.
