R01, R21, and R03 NIH Funding Opportunities: Pros and Cons
The R01, R21 and R03 are the three most common NIH Research Project Grants (RPGs). The R01 is considered the “gold standard” of NIH grants. The small R03 and exploratory/developmental R21 grants should not be considered as “mini-R01s” but rather serve a specific purpose for investigators. Our presenter has had multiple R01 and R21 grants and extensive experience reviewing these types of grant applications and provides the following: • A basic overview of the R01, R21 and R03 funding opportunities, including the difference between Parent Announcements (investigator-initiated) and Program Announcements/Request for Applications (PAs/RFAs). • Important differences between the R01, R21 and R03 funding opportunities. • Whether the R01, R21 or R03 is the right funding opportunity for your project.
