From Weeds to Pasture: What Years of Neglect Did to Our 50-Acre Farm

For years these paddocks were left unmanaged — weeds, poor pasture, and hard clay ground that wasn’t supporting healthy grazing. So we finally decided it was time to start fixing it. In this video we begin Stage 1 of restoring our 50-acre farm. We slash and work the paddocks to break up years of neglect and start improving the pasture for our horses. Some areas were waist-high with dead grass, weeds, Phalaris and onion grass — some of which are toxic for grazing. The plan is to slowly bring the land back to life over time. By slashing/tilling we’re helping organic material return to the ground while preparing the paddocks for better grasses in the future. This is just the beginning of the project and we’ll be documenting the whole process as we restore the farm. Stage 2 will be fertilizing and Seeding. We also check out a local horse auction and the Longwood beer festival: For the Love of Ale If you enjoy farm projects, horses, homesteading and seeing land brought back to life, consider subscribing and following along. ⭐ *Channel Memberships are now open!* If you’d like to support the channel and help us keep improving the farm, you can now join our memberships.
