How Does This Happen?
A Cal Fire prescribed burn escaped control yesterday, 6/8/2026, in Solano County, west of Winters. By midday Tuesday, the escape had burned about 500 acres of grass, oak woodland, poison oak, and ticks. We check out where it happened and look at the nearby weather conditions, and we'll talk about why this project was a priority for Cal Fire. We also talk about some of the pressures faced by burn bosses on the morning of a burn, and why it is hard to shut down a burn, even if conditions are marginal.
