We followed the footsteps of the donkeys, on the route marked E4, to the Spilios Agapitos refuge located at an altitude of 2060 meters. The route is mostly in the shade, through the forest. It is a sustained climb without difficult passages. At a height of 2,918m above sea level, it towers over Northern Greece, and can be seen as far away as Thessaloniki. It is situated on the borders of Thessaly and Macedonia. Olympus has 52 peaks in total, but the two main peaks are Mytikas - 2918 m, the highest peak, and Skolio, the second highest - 2905 m. The legends of Olymp take their name from the famous Olympus Mountain from Elada, name given to Ancient Greece. Olymp was considered the place where the Ancient Gods lived, being associated with the sky. Mount Olympus was said to be the top of the world, here being also the place where the fate of both gods and ordinary mortals was decided. Here lives Zeus - , "Father of gods and humans", son of Kronos and Rhea, the most powerful of the Olympian gods. From here, the god of the sky ruled the Earth, being also the lord of clouds, rain, snow, thunder and lightning.
