Derby - The Story of a City (1992)
Derby has been in existence, in one form or another, for nearly 2,000 years and has an intimacy, which outstrips any comparative town or city in the region. It is also a place that was a cradle of the Industrial Revolution and a centre of entrepreneurial flair and artistic activity, which stretches back to the 17th Century. This unique documentary film looks at the story of Derby from Roman times, through the Saxon, Viking, Domesday and Medieval eras, the Civil War and the '45 Rebellion, to the Industrial Revolution and Thoroughly Modern Derby. With the aid of archive film of pre-war Derby, specially commissioned modern footage and the views of noted local historian Maxwell Craven, it takes the viewer on a fascinating journey through Derby's remarkable history.
