Follow us on: Instagram:   / the_hobby_musician   Today, we’re continuing our most current guitar building project!! We’ve done several builds in the past and along the way, I learned so many lessons about how to do this in a DIY fashion that I want to capitalize on that and try my most ambitious guitar build yet. In this video, I want to show you my investigation of an upgraded way to make my own pickups. Regular viewers know that we typically design and build our own pickups a lot on the channel and one of the big parts of that process is winding the coils. Until now, I’ve used my trusty hand-crank winder and don’t get me wrong, that’s turned out great pickups for us! (pun intended!!). However, as I start to find myself making more and more sets, I’m starting to want a way to streamline that process, so here we are. I’ll be taking a look at the Schatten Model B pickup winder. In a nutshell, it’s really just an electric motor with a digital counter that keeps track of how many winds have happened. The simplicity of that design, with the machination of the turns is pretty much exactly what I’m looking for. This unit also has a few features, like guides to help keep the wire in a certain space, that add to it’s ease of use. Overall, I’ll take you through my thought process, the assembly of the unit, then the testing phase. As always, we hope you got something out of this episode to help you with your own projects so until next time, play on my friends, play on!!
