This Is Home 🪶 | ASU Pow Wow 2026
Ya’at’ééh! Aaron Tsosie here — the person behind the camera! 🎥 Welcome to Sunday at the ASU Pow Wow 2026. I missed Friday and Saturday because I was up in Flagstaff covering the Flagstaff High School Pow Wow. This weekend wasn’t about chasing views — it was about showing up where I felt I was needed most. I knew ASU already had strong media coverage, so I made the trip north first… and then came back down to finish the weekend here. Funny enough, I later found out that Indigenous Event Recordings was actually on the VIP list this whole time 😅 I didn’t even know until I reached out to the pow wow committee to ask for permission to film and share my images. For those who don’t know, I take hundreds of photos at every event I attend. 99.99% of them dont make it on the internet — only 20 are shared on my Instagram and the rest are shared directly with the dancers and singers, free of charge. I always ask for credit, but beyond that, I want people to have those moments for themselves and their families, its my way of giving back to the circle. ASU Pow Wow is one of what my family always called the “big four” growing up here in Phoenix — along with Mesa Pow Wow, Red Mountain Eagle Pow Wow, Fort McDowell Pow Wow, and ASU Pow Wow. As an urban Native, these were the pow wows we grew up going to every year. I’ve seen this event move over time — from the old football practice fields near Rural and University, to the softball practice fields, even inside Sun Devil Stadium, and now here at Desert Financial Arena. It’s been cool to watch it grow into what it is today. If you’re planning to attend, general admission is around $10, with weekend passes available. Since it’s on campus, there’s a clear bag policy and metal detectors at entry. Doors open at 11am, gourd dancing starts at noon, and Grand Entry begins at 1pm. Sunday wrapped up around 5pm. Outside the arena you’ll find food and merch vendors, and inside there are arena concessions (just be ready for those prices 😅). One big plus — indoor bathrooms, which is always appreciated. This visit felt like a bit of a surprise. I didn’t tell many people I was coming, but everyone saw me sitting on the edge of the circle. Throughout all of my videos you’ll see dancers and singers waving, stopping me to talk, or coming up to shake my hand. That’s something I never take for granted — the relationships built over time, the familiarity, and just feeling welcomed wherever I go. Even walking through the parking lot, I was catching up with families who didn’t expect to see me there. I told them I had just come from Flagstaff, and after ASU I was heading out to Moenave, Arizona to film a traditional Navajo wedding. It’s been a busy stretch — but a good kind of busy. I had to pick up my photographer and second videographer before we head north the next day for the wedding. From a photography standpoint, the lighting inside this arena is honestly a dream. Even when I was still learning two years ago, I noticed how consistent and bright it is — it really allows you to capture clean, detailed images without fighting the environment. Then last year i was more experienced and captured even better photos! I cant wait to see what I captured this year! I think I’ve said enough — I’ll let the video speak for itself. Thank you all for watching and supporting Indigenous Event Recordings. I’ve got a lot more coming this year… Next stop: Gathering of Nations 🔥 Still havent heard if I was approved for a media pass, even so I'll still capture stuff on my phone! Cant wait! Ahe’hee’! 🪶 P.S. During intertribals, the drums were so strong the camera picked up the vibration — you can actually see it! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 📢 Support My Work 🎯 Help me keep documenting Indigenous events — send a tip via Venmo: @imaarontoasty 💌 Want to support long-term?
