It does not go into specific details and you have to piece things together through the little boy's eyes. I believe that the mother is suffering post postpartum depression and got into fights with her husband after having her child. They then separated or divorced as it is clear the father does not live in the house. I will go into more details in the description of the full game. But it is clear that in the prologue that there were many arguments between the mother and father and that the mother seems to not always have her eyes on the child as in the prologue the boy ends up wandering out of the house looking for his rabbit friend.
