FTCE General Knowledge Math | Perimeter, Ratios & Distance Problems
What's going on my math party people! Welcome back to the Duran Learning FTCE channel — your go-to spot for crushing the FTCE General Knowledge Math test and getting one step closer to that Florida teaching certificate! In today's video, we're working through 3 real-world math problems straight from the Knowledge of Geometry and Measurement competency. These are exactly the types of questions you'll face on test day, so let's get after it! 📌 WHAT WE COVER TODAY: ⏱ 0:00 — Perimeter of a Rectangle | A farmer needs fencing around a 22m × 13m field. We break down how to apply the perimeter formula to real-world measurement problems. Answer: 70 m ⏱ 3:23 — Chained Ratios & Proportion | Boxes to shelves is 3:8, shelves to carts is 12:5 — what's boxes to carts? We show you the smart way to link ratios and solve compound proportion problems. Answer: 9:10 ⏱ 6:40 — Distance, Rate & Time | A freight train travels 4 hrs at 55 mph, then 3 hrs at 70 mph. We walk through how to use derived units (miles per hour) to calculate total distance. Answer: 430 miles 📝 FTCE GK MATH — QUICK FACTS: • The math section of the FTCE General Knowledge test includes 45 questions • Geometry & Measurement is one of the key competency areas tested • You'll need to handle both fundamental units (length, time) and derived units (mph, dollars/gallon) • Ratio and proportion problems appear regularly — know how to chain and scale them! 💡 PRACTICE TIPS FROM COACH ANDERSON: ✅ Always identify what the question is REALLY asking before solving ✅ For perimeter, remember: P = 2(l + w) — don't just add two sides! ✅ When chaining ratios, find the common term and scale accordingly ✅ For distance problems, apply D = R × T to each leg separately, then add ✅ Practice with real FTCE-style questions — not just generic math problems Whether you're a first-time test taker or retaking the FTCE GK Math, this channel is built for YOU. Coach Anderson keeps it real, keeps it clear, and keeps it moving.
