Palestine : « C'est la liberté d'expression qu'on veut censurer »
The world has been navigating troubled waters for 200 days. More than six months since the massacres perpetrated by Hamas and other Palestinian groups in Israel, 1,100 dead, and still 130 hostages in Gaza. More than six months of massacres by the Israeli army in Gaza, more than 34,000 dead and tens of thousands wounded, orphaned, and missing. These massacres deny our shared humanity. No one can justify them. In these troubled waters, a mixture of feelings coexist, uneasy: fear, rage, and sometimes hatred, indignation, and anger. Some essentialize Jews, fueling an unacceptable antisemitism. Others essentialize Palestinians or Muslims as supporters of Hamas, and cast a permanent suspicion on them as soon as they express solidarity with Palestine. Demonstrations have been banned. Activists, researchers, students, and union members have been sanctioned, questioned, and censored. Some are being tried or summoned for "glorifying terrorism." But they are neither terrorists nor apologists for crimes. They are defending political opinions. These opinions may not be popular. Does that justify silencing their freedom of expression? If they are targeted today, could we not all be targeted tomorrow?
