On an inconspicuous rock face, there is an inscription that has sparked passionate debates among historians, archaeologists, and enthusiasts of Slavic history for more than 150 years. In this video, we explore the story of Pavol Kriško, a historian from Kremnica who discovered several mysterious inscriptions in the 19th century. If their authenticity were ever confirmed, it would mean that the Slavs used a writing system centuries before the arrival of Saints Cyril and Methodius. More importantly, it would also change our understanding of when the Slavs first appeared in this region. That is precisely why Velestúr remains one of the most controversial sites in Slovak history to this day.
