The Hardy Banana - Musa basjoo A great beginner plant
The hardy banana or Musa basjoo has been available for any years. It's proven to be a tough hardy plant believed by many to be hardy in zone 6. Best planted at the base of a southern wall where it can benefit from home heat and increased winter sun. It will die back to a core and regenerate each spring with new growth. A great plant for children as it is exotic to look at and has rapid growth. It will not fruit as it is ornamental. Will benefit from winter protection a heavy layer of mulch and wrapping with burlap.
