04 Torah Psychology Is Not “Just Open Chazal”: Rambam, Therapy, and the Soul

Can Torah psychology be derived by simply “opening Chazal”? This seminar argues that the real question is not whether Torah has a different telos, but whether telos can be translated directly into therapeutic method. We use the Chasam Sofer and Minchas Pitim as a foil, then turn to Rambam’s Shemoneh Perakim, Avos 5:11, Rabbeinu Yonah, Toldos Yaakov Yosef, and Arvei Nachal to show that different meta-psychologies produce different readings of middos, anger, and therapy. 00:00 Recap 00:43 The Chasam Sofer Foil 05:40 Where the Category Mistake Really Happens 07:19 Telos, Meta-Psychology, and Practice 10:58 Why Rambam Writes Shemoneh Perakim Before Avos 13:21 Avos 5:11: What Is Anger? 19:29 Rambam vs. Rabbeinu Yonah 20:55 Toldos Yaakov Yosef and Arvei Nachal 36:03 Why Chassidus Is Not Failed Rambam 40:00 Psychology vs. Virtue Ethics 42:45 Critical Postmodernism: Constructed Does Not Mean Liquid #TorahPsychology #JewishTherapy
