Xerfi Canal Patrick Artus Pas de compétitivité sans industrie
In this Xerfi Canal video, Patrick Artus, Director of Research and Studies at Natixis, presents his latest book: France Without Its Factories. France is losing its factories and its workers. For a long time, politicians and intellectuals tried to convince us that the ideal economic model for France was to abandon industry to emerging countries and specialize in services and new technologies. Today, we are witnessing the devastating effects of this illusion: regional industrial desertification, declining job and wage levels, and an exponentially growing trade deficit and debt. It is therefore no surprise that deindustrialization is becoming a major theme of the presidential campaign. However, we have a very poor understanding of its scope, consequences, and origins. Patrick Artus and Marie-Paule Virard deserve great credit for dismantling these received ideas, economic policy errors, and risky choices. But their book is also a plea for reindustrialization, based on several structural reforms presented here with compelling clarity. Because our jobs and the future of our children are at stake... A graduate of École Polytechnique, the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE), and the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), Patrick Artus is currently the Director of Research and Studies at Natixis. He began his career in 1975 at INSEE, where he participated in forecasting and modeling work, among other things. He then worked in the OECD Economics Department (1980) before becoming Director of Studies at ENSAE and Head of the Research Seminar at Paris Dauphine University (1982). He taught at various universities (Dauphine, ENSAE, Centre for Advanced Studies in Armament, École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, HEC Lausanne, etc.), and is currently a Professor at École Polytechnique and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. He combines his teaching duties with his research and is involved with various economic journals and associations. His research was recognized with the title of Best Economist of the Year in 1996 by Le Nouvel Economiste. He is currently a member of the Council of Economic Analysis, which advises the Prime Minister. www.xerfi.fr http://www.xerficanal.com/patrick-art...
