Paradoxo do artista negro: o caso Alexandre Dumas

In this video, I discuss the paradox of the Black artist: the expectation that Black artists will only be recognized when they produce works that fit into a preconceived idea of "Black art," and the erasure that occurs when these works deviate from that mold. Using the case of Alexandre Dumas, one of the greatest writers in French literature and whitewashed by history, and his book Georges, I analyze how the literary field deals with Black authors. The video also draws a parallel with James Baldwin, who faced rejection when he published Giovanni's Room, a novel without a Black protagonist, precisely because it did not meet the expectations imposed on him as a Black writer. The reflection expands to a dialogue with contemporary debates on Black art, identity, and the film American Fiction, which satirizes the publishing market and its stereotypical demands on Black artistic production. 🔴 Books mentioned: • Alexandre Dumas - Georges: https://amzn.to/3LHpRxy • Alexandre Dumas - The Count of Monte Cristo: https://amzn.to/4jC1vSg • Alexandre Dumas - The Three Musketeers: https://amzn.to/3Nq9O7L • Alexandre Dumas - The Adventures of Robin Hood: https://amzn.to/4qNL2gj • Books from the Zahar Classics imprint: https://www.companhiadasletras.com.br... • James Baldwin - Giovanni's Room: https://amzn.to/3NEZ59A • James Baldwin - Proclaim it in the Mountains: https://amzn.to/3Nq95U6 🔴 Follow Companhia das Letras and the Zahar imprint: •   / companhiadasletras   •   / editorazahar   • @CompanhiaDasLetras ---------------------------------------------------------------- 📚 Check out my book The Warm Embrace of the Walls: https://amzn.to/3QPddeW 🎬 Become a channel member and get access to exclusive benefits:    / @ficçomos   📝 My dissertation on the division between high literature and commercial literature in contemporary Brazil: https://www.bdtd.uerj.br:8443/handle/... 🎓 MY WRITING COURSES ON UDEMY: https://www.udemy.com/user/wlange-keinde ---------------------------------------------------------------- ► AFFILIATE LINKS (you pay the normal price and Ficçomos receives a commission) (commission) 🔵 Amazon: https://bit.ly/compre-livros 🔵 Escrevedeira (literary course platform): https://escrevedeira.com.br/?aff=wlan... 🔵 Writing courses by Vilto Reis: Life in Writing: 10 Authors and Their Narrative Secrets: https://go.hotmart.com/Q62963973U How to Write Short Stories: https://go.hotmart.com/W11993969O The Writer's Path: https://go.hotmart.com/W11993973W The Habit of Writing: https://go.hotmart.com/C15505019R Creating Fictional Characters: https://go.hotmart.com/W31276130R 🔵 Poetry Writing Course by Cairo Trindade: https://bit.ly/curso-poemas ---------------------------------------------------------------- ► CONTACT: [email protected] ► Want to advertise on Ficçomos? bit.ly/ficcomos_anuncie ---------------------------------------------------------------- My name is Wlange Keindé, I am a writer, poet, social scientist from the Federal Fluminense University, Master in Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, and I am specializing in Screenwriting at the Darcy Ribeiro Film School.
