Okazaki, a long-established stationery store that has been in business for 150 years in Nakaichi Shopping Street in Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, will close at the end of May 2025. The store is run by 79-year-old Nobuko Okazaki. She has been working at the store since she was 20 years old, and retired three years ago, but returned to the shop to carry on the wishes of her younger brother, Tadashi, the fifth-generation store owner who passed away in February of this year. The historic store, which still retains flyers from the Taisho era and records from the Meiji era when the store was founded, sells brushes, ink, and even office desks, and was once bustling with orders from government agencies and universities. As the store's closure approaches, many regular customers come to express their gratitude and farewell. Nobuko says, "I want to do what I can," and will continue to provide sincere customer service until the end, such as offering alternatives to sold-out products. The beloved local restaurant "Okazaki" will be open until 5pm on May 31st. On the final day, they will be holding a half-price sale on all items.
