Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse (W220) 10 Fakten, die jeder 220er-Fahrer wissen sollte

Transparency note: Unpaid and unsolicited advertising. The Mercedes-Benz 220 series replaced the 140 series and was offered from October 1998 to August 2005. The S-Class was built as a sedan in two wheelbases. The corresponding coupé is the CL-Class (C215). The 220 series was available with various engines, most of which could be combined with a short or long wheelbase. Only the twelve-cylinder models were available only as a long-wheelbase version. The 5.0-liter M 113 V8 engine in the S 500 model and the M 137 V12 in the S 600 L were available with cylinder deactivation (ZAS). With cylinder deactivation, four or six cylinders are deactivated by valve deactivation under partial load. This results in improved efficiency and lower fuel consumption due to lower throttling losses and greater cylinder charge. This reduces the S 500's fuel consumption by 0.9 l/100 km.
