Deborah proclaims God’s role and leads the people; heaven intervenes as rain and floods rout the chariots. Barak seizes the moment, pursues the enemy, and Sisera flees on foot to the tent of Jael. Jael offers hospitality, then while Sisera sleeps she drives a tent peg through his temple, bringing an unexpected end to the commander. Israel routs the Canaanite forces and the oppression ends.
