Jung, aber Denkmal: Werke von Architektinnen

When the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments announced the protected status of Myra Warhaftig's IBA residential building in Berlin-Kreuzberg in October 2024, the press response was remarkably muted. This is almost alarming when one recalls the public debate surrounding the so-called Block 2 in the 1980s, during which women architects were "fought" for its designation as planners. Or were the reactions muted because many works by women architects are now listed as historical monuments? "Young, but Monuments" explores this history: What roles were women architects allowed and able to play since 1945? What role did emancipatory housing construction play? What were the differences between East and West Berlin? What was the contemporary reception? And what is it today? A panel discussion with experts from the fields of architecture, urban development, history, and historic preservation.
