Degrassi The Next Generation - Season 01 Episode 07: Basketball Diaries Jimmy desperately wants to make the basketball team. But, surprisingly, it looks like Sean is surpassing him as a possible star player. Adding to Jimmy's pressure is his academic status - he's been given a few warnings since he can't seem to balance school and sports. When he convinces hyperactive Spinner to skip a Ritalin pill and give it to him instead, he plays a great game - but not as a team player, and at the cost of injuring Sean. Spinner, meanwhile, wired without his meds, moons the audience and receives a stiff sentence from Principal Raditch. Although Jimmy's nailed his assignment and played a strong game, the coach sees him as an uncontrollable rebel and he doesn't make the team. Tired of writing and sitting in the background, Liberty begs for a chance to read the video announcements. When she threatens to strike, Ashley gives in. Liberty's nerves are too much for her and she messes the announcements up badly. Ashley gives her a bit of training and a second chance, and Liberty's confidence is rebuilt - but it's clear she won't be doing the announcements again until after Ashley graduates.
