Do Souls Stay Near Earth After Death? | Fr. Chad Ripperger
Most Catholics have never been taught how to think seriously about the period immediately after death. What happens to the soul? Can the dead remain near the living in any way? How should Catholics respond to dreams, strange experiences, or a sense that a departed soul needs prayer? And most importantly, what can the living do to help the dead? This Catholic teaching explains death with sobriety, hope, and doctrinal clarity. At death, the soul separates from the body and undergoes the particular judgment. The soul then enters heaven, hell, or purgatory. Purgatory is not a second chance and not a temporary hell. It is the purification of the saved, the final mercy by which souls who die in God’s grace are made ready for the full vision of Him. The script also addresses the question of whether souls can be near the living after death. God may permit unusual awareness or consolation, but Catholics must never seek communication with the dead. Spiritism, mediums, séances, channeling, spirit boards, and attempts to summon the dead are forbidden and spiritually dangerous. The Catholic response to any possible awareness of the dead is not curiosity, but prayer. The first days and weeks after death should be marked by urgent intercession. The tradition surrounding the third day, ninth day, and fortieth day is not a superstition or rigid dogma, but it reminds Catholics that the immediate period after death is spiritually serious. The dead should not be abandoned to vague sentiment or casual assumptions that they are already in heaven. Hope strongly, trust God’s mercy, but pray. The greatest help we can offer the dead is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Gregorian Masses, Rosaries, Divine Mercy Chaplets, indulgences, cemetery prayers, sacrifices, and Holy Communion offered worthily are acts of real charity within the communion of saints. Death does not end love. It changes the form of love. The living can still help the dead by prayer, sacrifice, and the Mass. If someone you love has died, begin now. Say their name before God. Have Mass offered. Pray for mercy. Love them in Christ. #CatholicFaith #Purgatory #PrayForTheDead #CatholicTeaching #CatholicSermon #CatholicDoctrine #AllSouls #GregorianMasses #CatholicMass #CommunionOfSaints #CatholicPrayer #EternalRest #TraditionalCatholic #CatholicFuneral #LifeAfterDeath #ParticularJudgment #CatholicTruth #RosaryForTheDead #DivineMercy #CatholicChurch 📌This channel shares original Catholic educational and reflective content inspired by broad themes of traditional Catholic spirituality, moral theology, spiritual warfare, virtue, prayer, confession, and sacramental life.
