This Tropical House Is Connected by Gardens

Casa Komorebi, by Studio Saxe, is not organized as one single block, it is divided into pavilions and the spaces are connected by gardens, shaded walkways, and views toward the Pacific. Located in Bahía Ballena, Costa Rica, the house uses a large shared roof to protect the paths between volumes, while concrete, steel, glass, wood, and natural finishes respond to the tropical landscape. The idea comes from “Komorebi,” a Japanese word for sunlight filtered through trees. Here, that idea becomes architecture. Light, shadow, vegetation, and movement are not just background elements. They become the way the house is experienced.
