Raised in an orthodox Brahmanic family, he was given the name Krishnamurti because he was the eighth son, like the Hindu avatar. As a child, he spent hours contemplating nature and became interested in mechanics. C.W. Leadbeater, occultist and collaborator of then-president Annie Besant, recognized the malnourished Krishnamurti as the "New Vehicle of the Buddha" or World Teacher. That young man was the chosen vehicle to embody "Maitreya." The reason for such statements was his perception that there was not a particle of selfishness in Krishnamurti's aura. The leaders of the Theosophical Society adopted the young man, and he was put on a regimen of exercise and diet to strengthen him physically. When he was fifteen, He wrote "At the Feet of the Master" in 1929. From a very early age, he was considered enlightened. In 1929, he left the Theosophical Society. From then on, he dedicated himself to showing and sharing his reflections throughout the world, initially with a small group of collaborators. He founded nine schools in India, England, and the United States. In the 1980s, Study Centers for adults were established in India, England, and the United States.
