Replacing Westwood / Countax powered grass collector brushes

Over time the brushes / bristles in the Countax powered grass collector become brittle and snap. This means the grass collector doesn't pick up all the grass as it should. This video shows how to replace the brushes in a Westwood / Countax powered grass collector. In this case, the grass collector is attached to a Countax C300H tractor. There are different widths of grass collector: this one had 54 brushes, i.e. 18 segments of 3. There was quite a battle with one of the bolts holding the brush driveshaft in place, as it had rusted and had previously been rounded off by someone else. Once the bolts had been removed, removing the brush shaft and replacing the brushes was fairly straightforward. It's important to keep the staggered arrangement of the new brushes so they give a uniform sweep of the lawn. This is a good opportunity to check / replace the grass collector bearings if you like. I refitted the brush driveshaft with new bolts, covered in plenty of copper grease to stop them seizing up again. I did a test cut after replacing the brushes and it was a success, no more grass left on the lawn.
