It was the first album since the departure of Roger Waters now under the leadership of guitarist David Gilmour with Nick Mason and Richard Wright now back in action. Highlights from the album included the single Learning to Fly, the hard guitar driven Sorrow and a ballad calling for empathy to all people, On The Turning Away. Of course songs from Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall were also performed: Money, Us and Them, Time, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, One of These Days, Run Like Hell and Comfortably Numb (Echoes was also performed in early shows). The 1988 show from New York was released as Delicate Sound of Thunder. Machan (billed back then as Margret Taylor) made up the backup vocal trio with Durga McBroom and Rachel Fury. Their collaboration on The Great Gig in the Sky was a true highlight. Rounding out the band was saxophone and guitar player Scott Page, bassist Guy Pratt, keyboardist Jon Carin, guitarist Tim Renwick and percussionist Gary Wallis. Previously, Machan had sang for George Benson, Foreigner and Pat Benatar. Following her tour with Pink Floyd she would join the band Hiroshima as their lead singer. She also did work with Sting, Aretha Franklin and Gov't Mule. Her voice can be heard in movies such as Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Machan currently works as a vocal teacher.
