The autumn leaves in Shiga Prefecture, which stretches across a basin around Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, are a little late in the season, but temples and historic sites dotting the lake provide a great opportunity to enjoy the vivid colors of autumn leaves. We will introduce in two parts, the first and second parts, such attractive autumn leaves spots in Shiga Prefecture. (*Click here for the first part:   • 滋賀県の紅葉絶景ベスト20選（前編） / メタセコイア並木・彦根城 玄宮園・三島池・...   ） -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ■Eigenji Temple ( Mid-November to early December ) Eigenji Temple, located in the eastern part of Shiga Prefecture, is renowned for its beautiful autumn leaves. ■Saimyoji Temple ( Mid-November to early December ) Saimyoji Temple is located in the eastern part of Shiga Prefecture and is one of the "Three Temples of Koto" along with Kongorinji Temple and Hyakusaiji Temple. ■Hyakusaiji Temple (mid-November to early December) Hyakusaiji Temple is located in the eastern part of Shiga Prefecture and has been selected as one of the "100 best autumn leaves viewing spots in Japan. ■Omi Hachiman Hachiman Dugout ( Mid-November to early December ) Omihachiman is a town that developed from the castle town built by Hidetsugu Toyotomi, and the old streets of the Edo period still remain. Hachimanbori is a 6 km long waterway maintained in the castle town. ■Hachimanyama Castle ( mid-November to early December ) Hachimanyama is a 270-meter-high mountain located near Lake Biwa, and on the mountain was Hachimanyama Castle, the residence of Toyotomi Hidetsugu. ■Minakuchi Castle ( Mid-November to early December ) Minakuchi Castle was located in Minakuchi Town, Koka City, in the southern part of Shiga Prefecture. The castle was built as a lodging house for Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third shogun of the Edo Shogunate, during his trips to Kyoto, and a luxurious palace modeled after the palace at Nijo Castle was constructed. ■Zensui-ji Temple ( Mid-November to early December ) Zensui-ji Temple is located in the southern part of Shiga Prefecture, and its name comes from the legend of spiritual water created by the power of Saicho, a Buddhist priest. ■Chouju-ji Temple ( Mid-November to early December ) Chouju-ji Temple is located in the southern part of Shiga Prefecture and is one of the "Three Temples of Konan" along with Joraku-ji Temple and Sensui-ji Temple. ■Jorakuji Temple (Honan Sanzan) Jorakuji Temple is located near Choujuji Temple and is one of the "Three Temples of Konan" along with Zensuji Temple and Choujuji Temple, and is also the first temple of the "Omi Nishikoku Kannon Sacred Area. ■Ishiyama-dera Temple ( Mid-November to early December ) Ishiyama-dera Temple is located near the southern tip of Lake Biwa. The main hall and the two-storied pagoda are designated as National Treasures. ■Miidera Temple ( Mid-November to early December ) Miidera Temple is located near the shore of Lake Biwa and is officially called "Onjoji Temple," the head temple of the Tendai Teramon sect of Buddhism. ■Hiyoshi-taisya Shrine ( Mid-November to early December ) Hiyoshi-taisha Shrine is located near the southwestern shore of Lake Biwa and is the head shrine of about 3,800 Hiyoshi and Sanno shrines throughout Japan. ■Shirahige Shrine ( extra ) Shirahige Shrine is located on the western shore of Lake Biwa. It is the head shrine of more than 300 Shirahige shrines throughout Japan.
