While we are careful about stockpiling food and water, the first and most serious problem to reach is actually toilets. A survey of the Noto Peninsula earthquake revealed that the number one problem in the initial stages of evacuation was toilets. More than half of people need to use the toilet within just three hours of a disaster, but what would you do in a town where the toilet system has stopped working? This time, we welcome Atsushi Kato, Representative Director of the Japan Toilet Research Institute, as our guest to thoroughly explain the reality of the "toilet problem during disasters" and concrete preparations to protect lives and dignity.
