Katzenbergtunnel: Die Tübbingfabrikation

During tunnel boring machine (TBM) excavation, securing, sealing, and lining the tunnel are all accomplished in a single operation. The inner lining of the Katzenberg Tunnel consists of a ring of precast reinforced concrete segments, known as tunnel lining segments (tubbings). These were installed immediately after the boring process, protected by the tunnel boring machine's shield. Seven segments form a two-meter-long tubbing ring, with an inner diameter of 9.4 meters. At full operation, the production of one ring took approximately 40 to 50 minutes. The production of the 60-centimeter-thick tubbings presented a technical challenge, as all the "tunnel components" had to be manufactured with millimeter precision. The segments, weighing up to 16 tons each, were manufactured on-site in a specially constructed factory. Inside the factory, and subsequently in an outdoor storage area, the segments were allowed to set and harden. A total of 63,000 tubbings were produced for the two tubes of the Katzenberg Tunnel. http://www.karlsruhe-basel.de For the latest information, follow us on social media:   / karlsruhebasel     / karlsruhebasel
