Parallel Parking - Never Hit The Curb 2

How to avoid hitting the curb while parallel parking. If you have your passenger side mirror fixed properly this should work very well. The golden rule. is if you can not see the road, the street, the pavement then you are about to hit the curb. Immediately stop your vehicle and use this two step method. Fix your passenger side mirror as much to the left as possible and down enough to see the road, the sidewalk, the curb and the back of your vehicle. If you do not have easily adjustable side mirrors, then it would be better to adjust them for parallel parking before you start the test. The NYSDMV does require your mirrors to be in specific positions. Adjust them according to what works best for you. Also most examiners will allow you to adjust your mirrors during the test to help you parallel park. Parallel parking should be done in 3-5 steps Anytime you stop your vehicle to either change the gear or change the direction of the steering wheel that will typically be considered a step. Your first step is considered to be when you first turn the steering wheel to the right and reverse into the spot.
