Justus Frantz: on Beethoven's opera "Fidelio" at the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall

On March 4, 2026, a concert performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's opera "Fidelio" took place at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre. The leading roles were performed by Mariinsky Theatre Opera Company soloists Oxana Shilova, Gamid Abdulov, Yakov Strizhak, Isabella Andriasyn, Oleg Losev, Gevorg Grigoryan, Anatoly Mikhailov. The renowned German conductor Justus Frantz conducted the performance. Beethoven's only opera, "Fidelio", was written in the tradition of the French "opera of horror and rescue". It is based on a true story about a husband's wife's rescue from prison, which took place in Tours during the Terror. Beethoven revised the score twice, including writing four different overtures, but “Fidelio” was destined to remain an opera with beautiful music and a complex stage history.
