The quintessential city dweller, the urbanite in every sense of the word, is this Smart EQ ForTwo. If the Smart is already the most suitable car for navigating the concrete jungle, its electric version is the icing on the cake of a topic that, lately, has been on everyone's lips due to restrictions, pollution, and possible solutions for the mobility of the near or distant future. This Smart demonstrates that it is designed for and by the city, and that's where it shows its best qualities. In fact, with this electric version, it's best not to stray too far from the city, as its limited range and need for frequent charging significantly restrict its use for trips outside urban areas. If we consider its operating range, and exclude two-wheelers, motorcycles, and bicycles, the Smart is the most rational and sensible option for getting around large cities, and even small and medium-sized ones, why not? Just when it seems the brand is studying its future viability and considering eliminating all its combustion engine variants, focusing solely on electric power, this version, its optimization, and modernization will be key to the survival of a brand that always makes its mark with its own unique arguments, almost always different from the majority. The 145-160 kilometers of range may seem limited compared to the latest wave of new electric cars that easily exceed 400 kilometers. However, these are somewhat more expensive, although also more modern and efficient, and their prices will gradually decrease thanks to competition. It's equally true that this Smart EQ ForTwo can suit the vast majority of city car users. If you have a charger at home or work, or if you commute, with some leeway, up to 20 kilometers round trip each day, you can charge it just once a week and get around with ease, at a much lower cost than fossil fuels. Plus, you'll benefit from a host of advantages, such as parking in regulated areas, access to restricted zones, tax breaks, and so on. It's true that to recoup the €23,500 price tag, you'd have to use it daily for several years, but it's also true that once you get used to it, it's hard to go back. The ability to park almost anywhere—due to its size, not actual feasibility, which is barely mentioned in the video—is something you don't appreciate until you realize you can park in almost any space you find. Similarly, it also seems more logical, unless space is a pressing concern, to opt for the four-seater version for just a little more money, which doubles the number of passengers and consequently the cargo capacity.
