Backrooms Interview: Director Kane Parsons, Renate Reinsve & Chiwetel Ejiofor on YouTube Series

This week, A24’s youngest director, Kane Parsons, will continue his viral YouTube legacy with the much-anticipated Backrooms, a feature-length no clip into the mysterious universe he first explored back in 2022 with his series The Backrooms: Found Footage. With one of this year’s most sensational horror movies hitting the big screen this weekend, Collider’s Steve Weintraub had the chance to sit down with Parsons and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve to step into the Backrooms. Since the movie adaptation was first announced, fans have been eager to see how this 2019 creepypasta would translate to film. Now, with a stacked cast, Parsons himself at the helm at just 20 years old, and backed by A24, audiences will finally venture beyond this reality to a terrifying dimension where horrors lurk around every corner. In the movie, Reinsve plays a therapist who steps into the Backrooms to track down her patient (Ejiofor) and save him. Don’t miss the full conversation in the video above where Parsons explains the influence of David Lynch in his life, how he approached Backrooms’ weighty lore in just an hour and 50 minutes, and how his YouTube series helped find the movie in the edit. Ejiofor and Reinsve also discuss representing the emotional and human side of the Backrooms, collaborating with Parsons on the more technical aspects of the film, and whether they’d go into the Backrooms themselves. #backroomsmovie #backrooms #kaneparsons #chiwetelejiofor #renatereinsve For interviews, movie reviews, and more visit https://collider.com FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL   / collider     / collider     / collider
