And even more people below the walls. Life below the walls (and the central city) might be just as bad as life outside of haven in the wilds. Haven city has a unique laser sentry set up around the entire city to keep intense heat, solar storms, wraith maws, and other natural desert conditions out of the city. Walls are the primary way the city was founded, and the primary way of division. walls are meant to keep things out, beasts and of course the poor and afflicted alike. The central city is clean beautiful and all major government, economic, and well being occurs here. Those not so lucky are outside the center and live in difficult situations in the sectors outside the central walls. These areas are also walled from the Wilds (desert) although regular upkeep and protection on these outer walls lack in some areas. Life in Haven is designed around walls and what they provide. of course there are many cases of beasts breaking into these outer sectors. What effects might these beasts have on these not so lucky residents. You'll have to come back to the next lore dump to find out.
