Policing Minister condemns 'violent' protests over Henry Nowak murder

Two people have been arrested after protesters clashed with police in Southampton over officers' handling of the murder of Henry Nowak. Hundreds gathered outside Southampton Central Police Station on Tuesday Evening, where Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, commonly known as Tommy Robinson, and Laurence Fox were among those who spoke to the crowd. Policing minister Sarah Jones urged people not to use Mr Nowak's murder to 'stir division' and described the scenes last night as 'unacceptable'. Jones said several police officers and a police dog were injured in the protests. The police watchdog is expected to report on the case within the next three months. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said its independent investigation "remains ongoing". It added that investigators are examining a large amount of body-worn video as well as material presented during Digwa’s trial. Hampshire Police confirmed that one of the officers involved in the case has resigned, while the other three are still serving. All of them are being treated as witnesses.
