Jurong West Central

Key Design Concepts: The project had a clear vision: to transform the entire home into a luxurious, modern minimalist space while maintaining a family-friendly environment. The space needed to accommodate the couple’s lifestyle, the needs of their two young children, and their desire for a sophisticated yet comfortable home. 1. Modern Minimalist Luxury Theme: The overarching aesthetic for the home revolves around sleek, simple lines, with a luxurious touch. The color palette is kept neutral and calm, featuring whites, blacks, and soft natural tones, with some accent textures and materials that add warmth and contrast, like wood and marble. The design emphasizes functionality, with spaces free from clutter while maintaining an air of opulence. Every design choice was made with an eye toward creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere, offering a balanced blend of aesthetics and practicality. This concept is carried throughout the house—from the living areas to the bedrooms. 2. Matching the Existing Dining Table: One of the key design challenges was integrating the couple’s existing dining table into the modern design. The table, likely a significant piece for the family, had to remain a focal point without compromising the minimalist aesthetic. How Samuel & Choon Hian approached this: Material Selection: The team selected complementary materials that worked with the table’s design. If the table was wood or glass, they used similar tones and finishes throughout the space (for example, light wood cabinetry or a glass light fixture overhead). Integrated Design Elements: The dining space was styled in a way that highlighted the table while still being in harmony with the room’s overall look. Clean lines were used for furniture and décor around it, and light, unobtrusive artwork or wall treatments helped to ensure the dining table remained the star of the space. 3. Kitchen Renovation: The kitchen was a major area of focus in this design. The couple wanted a space that allowed for ample counter space for family cooking, along with lots of natural light. Samuel & Choon Hian worked to ensure that the kitchen was not only functional but also aesthetically aligned with the modern minimalist theme. Key Features of the New Kitchen Design: More Counter Space: The layout was reworked to provide more counter space for meal preparation and informal dining. This was achieved through careful placement of cabinets and appliances, with a large central island that serves both as additional counter space and a social hub for the family. Natural Lighting: One of the priorities was to introduce more natural light into the kitchen. The team incorporated larger windows or sliding glass doors where possible, ensuring that the space felt open and airy. Skylights could have been used as an alternative for maximizing daylight in a way that also contributes to energy efficiency. Streamlined Design: The kitchen was fitted with high-end appliances integrated into custom cabinetry, contributing to the minimalist aesthetic while maintaining practicality. Every design choice—whether the clean lines of the cabinetry or the choice of materials (such as matte finishes for a sleek, sophisticated look)—focused on creating a seamless, user-friendly space. 4. Family-Friendly Elements: Since the family includes two young boys, the design had to account for their safety and practical needs while still adhering to the minimalist luxury theme. Samuel & Choon Hian’s approach to a family-friendly design: Durability: Materials that could withstand wear and tear (such as scratch-resistant surfaces and soft-close drawers) were chosen without sacrificing design. Open Concept Spaces: The layout of the home was designed to flow smoothly, with open spaces that promote interaction and family time. The living and dining areas were designed to be connected but distinct, allowing for easy movement and visibility. Safe and Functional: Sharp corners were minimized, and furniture was carefully selected to be both stylish and child-friendly. The children’s rooms were designed to balance comfort, fun, and style, with neutral themes and playful accents that could evolve as the boys grow. 5. Full Home Revamp: The entire house was revamped to align with the new vision of modern luxury, with a focus on openness, natural light, and sleek lines. Each space—bedrooms, bathrooms, and common areas—was completely overhauled to create a unified look. Conclusion: Samuel & Choon Hian’s design strategy combined form and function in every space, creating a home that is both a modern minimalist masterpiece and a warm, family-friendly environment. The renovation was completed in the time frame provided, thanks to their meticulous planning, attention to detail, and dedication to creating a luxurious home that matched the clients' vision while accommodating their family’s needs.
