AN ALTERNATIVE SHARED HOUSING SOLUTION: SENIOR WOMEN LIVING TOGETHER

Pat Dunn presents on the process SWLT uses to help single, senior women find compatible home mates, then live together harmoniously in rental accommodation or with senior women who own their homes. Also included will be the pros and cons, the successes and challenges, and how "ageing-in-place" and the SWLT agenda align. Pat is a retired Public Health Nurse who after her husband’s sudden death was unable to find affordable housing. So, she invited other senior women to join her in a Facebook group to discuss the possibility of living together to save money. 200 women joined the group within a month resulting in Pat, with their help, building a program and non-profit organization and website to help everyone find compatible home mates. Senior Women Living Together was born! With Pat pointing out that 285,000 single, senior women live on the brink of homelessness in unaffordable housing in Ontario the necessity for this program has become clear.
