There's a high chance you've shopped at MMC New Market in Margao

M.M.C. New Market or Margao Market or New Market are some of the names that people use interchangeably for the market which is in the heart of Margao city. On my visit to the market on 07.01.2023, i filmed and documented my tour into the market with my mother walking in front of me. A wide variety of items for everyday use are available in this market like decorations, toys, grocery items such as rice, wheat, dal, spices, masalas, chillies; other items such as candles, prepared food packs, noodles, chillies, jaggery, undergarments for women like bras, panties, underwear, g strings, thongs, camisoles, slacks, night dresses or nighty, vegetables like potatoes, sweet potatoes, spinach, fruits like apples, mangoes, bread fruit, jackfruit, dragon fruit. There are a number of cold drink shops which make you fresh lime soda, iced coffee or cold coffee, falooda and other soft drinks andncold drinks like Pepsi or Coca Cola or the local versions of it from brands like Taan, Shah, N Jal, etc. There are a few bakeries and confectioners where you can get goan delicacies like croquettes, bollinhas, dodol, bebinca, doce, pinagr/ pinaac/ pinaca, beef patties, chicken patties, egg patties, veg patties, biscuits, goan bol/ boll, fish cutlets, veg cutlets, sannas, etc. You also get toddy, vinegar and other condiments if you prefer bringing some of your recipes to life. Western dresses, skirts, blouses are also available for women. There are a few shops/ stalls selling umbrellas, raincoats, jackets, bags, flowers, imitation jewellery, real gold and silver jewellery amongst others. You can also get goan sausages as well in this market. There are also a few footwear shops and stalls selling all kind of footwear for women and a few for men as well. Goans all over the world who have now settled in The U.S.A, U.K, Portugal, Europe, Australia, New Zealand or those who work on cruise lines and cruise ships or in the Middle East and perhaps even as close as Mumbai or Bombay are sure to feel nostalgic and miss the Margao Market which has been a integral part of Goans to their shopping in this market.
