Fan Sightings From Vietnam! | V2
My family & I went on holiday to Vietnam last December. It's winter during that time, which means the majority of fans I see were switched off. That didn’t stop me from making new discoveries in the Vietnamese fan market & sharing them with you! Notable moments: Remember when I mentioned Dan Nguyen, a fellow fan collector from Vietnam, who helped me recreate a Marelli 48" fan blade? Well, the first clips from 0:00 were from my first visit to his house! I had my jaws on the floor the entire time I was there. I'm not a big fan of antique fans, but just seeing a large number of fans that are over 100 years old was nothing to sneeze at. I actually went to his place twice during my stay in Vietnam. I'll tell you the story of the 2nd visit in a future video. The shops at 3:04 were located at Hanoi's old quarter. There was literally a whole street full of shops selling fans. The different shops more or less had the same fans in stock, but some also sell reproduction Marelli pedestal & desk fans for way too much money. Also, did you notice there were Thai fans for sale as well? The fan at 5:44 is one of the cheapest type of exhaust fan available in Vietnam. They are no more than a cheap plastic casing with a grille that looks like a ceiling speaker, with a standard 220V muffin fan inside. They’re available in sizes ranging from 90mm, 120mm, 150mm, and I think that’s it. I never knew that such a fan existed, and I’m very impressed by the bare bones concept of it. Most of the ones I see are quite noisy & don’t move that much air. The fan at 10:35 & 10:41 is another variant that these come in. They’re equipped with regular shaded pole motors & plastic fan blades, some in the pusher configuration, some in the puller configuration. This fan at 6:41 is either 20” or 24” in diameter, I can’t remember for sure. What I do remember is the stark contrast of the airflow generated by this fan compared to small retro desk fans that use the same style of fan blade. This fan is a serious air mover and it’s built like a tank! 7:44 is my first time testing a Vietnamese home factory high velocity fan. The sound it makes is very interesting to say the least, and this is a fan that makes checks it can’t cash. It looks like it means business, but all it can do is generate a breeze equivalent to a 16” plastic fan, but enlarged. I don’t know how much this fan retails for, but I hope it’s not that expensive, since it can’t hold a candle to the mass produced fans this fan is imitating. #Vietnam #ElectricFans
