Sam Thompson: A Life Built By Hand

SAMUEL DAVID THOMPSON: A LIFE BUILT BY HAND, LIVED BY HEART In a quiet Tennessee home built board‑by‑board by his own hands, a 100‑year‑old man sits surrounded by memories—photographs, tools, and stories that stretch across a century. This is the life of Samuel David Thompson, a Montford Point Marine, master carpenter, devoted husband, and gentle soul whose legacy was shaped not by fame or fortune, but by faith, family, and an unshakeable work ethic. Born in 1925 and raised during segregation, Sam learned early what dignity meant—and lived it every day. He built houses while working 30 years for American Airlines. He raised three children with his wife Wilma, whom he loved fiercely for 65 years. He survived heartbreak, including the tragic loss of his son. And he traveled the world with a sense of wonder that never faded. Through intimate interviews, rare family footage, and Sam’s own warm, humorous storytelling, this documentary reveals a man who never stopped moving, never stopped helping, and never stopped believing in goodness. He mowed his own yard at 98. He climbed onto roofs at 99. He drove himself to church at 100. This is not just the story of a long life—it’s the story of a meaningful one. A life built with calloused hands, steady faith, and a heart big enough to carry generations. “If I’m not here another year,” Sam once said, “look up yonder. I’ll be there.” This film looks up—and finds him. Credit Video: Interview by Pastor Jackie Midkiff Editing: By Dr. Michael David Thompson Music rights are not our own.
